First Meeting of the Industrial Symbiosis Network in Telavi
With the support of the European Union, CENN, in cooperation with the international organization ICLEI Europe, has established an Industrial Symbiosis Network in the Kakheti region within the framework of the project “Circular Cities and Regions in Georgia.”
The Industrial Symbiosis Network is an informal platform that fosters cooperation among member companies through resource and knowledge sharing, waste reduction, and business process optimization. The network brings together representatives of the HoReCa sector, retail and wholesale trade, manufacturers, and waste management companies operating in Kakheti.
International experience demonstrates that industrial symbiosis is one of the most effective approaches for promoting sustainable and resource-efficient business practices. It helps companies optimize their processes and implement more profitable solutions.
The first meeting, held on 17 June in Telavi, featured the following:
- Member companies were introduced to international experience and successful examples of industrial symbiosis networks from around the world;
- Participants had the opportunity to engage with representatives of an industrial symbiosis network in Norway and hear about their practical experiences;
- Companies such as Adjara Group, Fabrika, and compost.ge presented their already established and successfully functioning circular business models;
- Participants discussed existing needs, challenges, and opportunities, and reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation by signing a memorandum of understanding.
The Industrial Symbiosis Network is part of the EU-funded project “Circular Cities and Regions in Georgia,” implemented by CENN in partnership with ICLEI Europe. The project aims to strengthen climate resilience in Georgia and support a just transition by reducing waste and promoting the planning and implementation of circular economy practices.
