On February 11, the second meeting of the Adjara Industrial Symbiosis Network was held, where business representatives and experts discussed specific ways to implement circular approaches and innovative ideas for replacing plastic packaging. The main goal of the meeting was to identify opportunities that will help businesses save resources and transform waste into new business ideas.

Plastic Alternatives and New Business Opportunities

In the first part of the meeting, the business sector presented various strategies for replacing single-use packaging. Major retail outlets and HORECA sector representatives participating in the discussion spoke about the challenges and opportunities associated with the integration of sustainable packaging in services.

Identified solutions included reusable systems, which reduce environmental impact and save costs in the long run, as well as the industrial symbiosis approach itself, which involves supporting local production and implementing joint waste management mechanisms.

Circular Business Models and Resource Efficiency

Business members of the Industrial Symbiosis Network presented the circular approaches they have implemented. Local producers shared their experience in turning organic and other types of waste streams into new resources.

Network members continue to work in areas such as:

  • Resource sharing: Using waste generated in one enterprise (e.g., waste received during raw material processing) by another sector for composting, animal feed, or the production of secondary products.
  • Closed-loop management: Implementing reuse systems that allow for the optimization of operational costs.
  • Increasing loyalty: Implementing environmentally responsible approaches gives businesses an advantage in market positioning and increases opportunities to attract capital.

In the final part of the discussion, focus was placed on circular business as a means of attracting investment and expanding the market.

CENN expresses its readiness to help businesses in identifying needs, finding partners, and organizing targeted workshops.
